More Than a Job: Crafting Your Career Path
Career mode is by far the most significant addition to MSFS 2024, and it came directly in response to community feedback. Players wanted more structured challenges in MSFS, and career mode was the perfect solution.
“Shortly after launch, we conducted several surveys,” said Asobo Studio’s Chief Creative Officer, David Dedeine. “What was surprising about the results was that everyone – from the most dedicated simmers to what we call ‘digital tourists’was asking for ‘more purpose and goals.'”
The cornerstone of the MSFS 2024 experience was originally considered for MSFS 2020, but for various reasons, it didn’t make the final cut. However, the idea of a career mode goes back even further. Dedeine mentioned recently discovering a development document from 2017 that had one of the earliest mentions of the concept.
“But we had to focus on the 2020 release first,” he explained, adding that the early surveys provided the confirmation they needed to move ahead with career mode. “Everyone wanted this. We wanted it, too. So we decided to make it happen.”
