Weathering the Skies: Planes in MSFS 2024 Get Dirty and Worn
“The planes will experience wear and tear, and they’ll get dirty,” Wloch explained. “The way you fly, hard landings, how you brake, these factors will impact your systems and immediately affect performance.” He used the braking system in MSFS 2024 as an example: “We simulate both carbon and metal brakes, and they react completely differently. Carbon brakes are more efficient when hot, while metal brakes become less effective as they heat up.” Depending on your aircraft’s braking system, you’ll need to adjust how you brake. “Basically, the temperature will increase during braking,” Wloch added, and as they’re used, “the more they wear, the less effective they become.”
This wear and tear affects more than just the brakes. “We’ve implemented this for tires, engines, and many other components,” Wloch said. “Over time, hard landings and poor flying habits will degrade the aircraft.” But don’t worry, you won’t be stuck watching your favorite plane fall apart over the years. You’ll be able to repair any damage. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to ask if this feature can be toggled on or off, but given Asobo’s dedication to both hardcore simmers and more casual players, I’d be surprised if turning it off wasn’t an option. We’ll find out when the final sim launches in November.
